Urban Coyote Ecology and Management (PDF)
The Cook County Coyote Project (Bulletin e929) is the the largest study of urban coyotes in the world, allowing us to peek into the hidden lives of these remarkable animals. Originally known as ghosts of the plains, coyotes have now become ghosts of the cities, occasionally heard but rarely seen. We know very little about how coyotes are becoming successful in landscapes dominated by people; this lack of knowledge hampers management of this animal. This comprehensive ecological study provides information on coyote diets, social behavior, movement patterns, and survival and provides insight into how people and coyotes coexist on a daily basis.
