Applying Pesticides Correctly (Core manual) is designed to teach and encourage all areas of proper pesticide use and includes a sample test is also provided in the back of every chapter. Core is not a category. All prospective commercial and private licensees are required to take and pass this exam. ©1990

Laws and Rules for Applicators: Pesticides are regulated to protect public health and prevent adverse effects to the environment. The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) enforces the federal pesticide law for the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in Ohio. The federal law is called the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). The ODA also enforces Ohio pesticide laws and regulations. Pesticide applicators in Ohio must comply with all laws and regulations.

Ohio State University Extension's Pesticide Safety Education Program offers an optional exam prep course for new applicators. This course reviews Core, Category 5—Industrial Vegetation Control, 6C—Ornamental Weed Pest Control, and Category 8—Turf Pest Control.
